Walkthrough & Notes

This skirmish is also part of the Epic quest Chapter 5: The Battle of the Way of Smiths. Epic quest giver is Stóthkell at The Heart of Fire. For more information about this skirmish read Battle of the Way of Smiths. This skirmish takes place is a cave passage The Way of Smiths which bridges the caverns between the Redhorn Lode and the Silverdeep in Moria. Within lies the famed forge of the dwarves known as the Heart of Fire. In the last dialogue, Stóthkell talks about nearly losing Zigilburk. Since the axe has already been lost in Chapter 3, I guess he meant Nâr-khelab, The Heart of Fire.

Quest Text

The Battle of the Way of Smiths "With the revelation of Zigilburk, Mazog knows that the Heart of Fire has been discovered and seeks to claim the forge for his own. In the Way of Smiths, the dwarves must stem the flood of darkness and prevent the Heart of Fire from falling to the Orcs." Background The Way of Smiths, in which lies the secret entrance to the Heart of Fire, must be defended from the Ghâsh-hai loyal to Mazog. Objective 1 Talk to Stóthkell in the Way of the Smiths Stóthkell must survive the assault Stóthkell is leading the defence of the Way of the Smiths against the forces of Mazog. You should report to him to receive your assignment. Stóthkell: 'Ah, I fear you have wasted your time coming here, <name>. With the way shut, we shall have no problems with the Orcs. Those witless fools have no chance of forcing this door open. 'The Heart of Fire is...wait, what is that sound? It cannot be! They have found us!' Objective 2 Push back the first assault Stóthkell must survive the assault The first assault on the Way of Smiths has begun. Protect the forges! Stóthkell says, "I would ask that you follow the ebb and flow of the battle and aid where you are needed most." Stóthkell says, "Also, do not forget to unfrul the banners of Khazad-dûm." Stóthkell says, "They can help stir the hearts of all Free Peoples to great deeds and may even help turn the tide of battle." Stóthkell says, "However, do not use them lightly, as once unfurled, a banner's strength is spent." Stóthkell says, "Now dwarves of Moria, we make our stand!" You have defended against the first assault. There are a few short moments to gather your breath before the next arrives. Objective 3 Push back the second assault Stóthkell must survive the assault The second assault on the Way of Smiths has begun. Protect the forges! Objective 4 Push back the third assault Stóthkell must survive the assault The third assault on the Way of Smiths has begun. Protect the forges! Objective 5 Push back the final assault Stóthkell must survive the assault The final assault has begun. The enemy's numbers are waning but their ferocity increases. Withstand this assault, defeat their leader and maintain control of the Heart of Fire. Objective 6 Talk to Stóthkell atop the Supervisor's Platform Stóthkell must survive the assault There is a puase in the battle. You should talk to Stóthkell on the Supervisor's Platform. Stóthkell: 'I do not like this, <name>. Can you hear the rumbling beyond the entrance hall? Come! Follow me!' Objective 7 Follow Stóthkell Follow Stóthkell to learn the source of what is shaking the Way of the Smiths. Objective 8 Defeat Harna and his keepers Stóthkell must survive the assault Harna the troll and his keepers are attacking the entrance hall! Stóthkell says, "Can you feel the tremors? Something is approaching from the south!" Stóthkell says, "The Enemy is bringing something powerful to bear against us!" Stóthkell says, "Prepare yourself! The Enemy is upon us!" Stóthkell: 'There is little else for you to do here now, <name>. Do you wish to leave with me?' Optional Encounter 1: Defeat Ice-heart Stóthkell calls out, 'The fires of the western forge have died out. Use the bellows to rekindle them!' There is a flash and the frost-grim Ice-heart appears! Optional Encounter 2: Defeat Celebarch The beating of wings and the hiss of serpents beneath the Supervisor's Platform speaks of the presence of dragonets.... A terrible roar heralds the arrival of the drake-matron Celebarch! Optional Encounter 3: Defeat Fikûhom A loud curse in Black Speech from beneath the Supervisor's platform heralds the Uruk-hai Fikûhom, who claims the Heart of Fire for Saruman Optional Encounter 4: Defeat Durbrennil A horrible stench and awful shittering annouce the arrival of the great spider Durbrennil beneath the Supervisor's Platform Optional Encounter 5: Defeat Sadâuk Sadâuk lets out a gurgling roar as he explodes into the entrance hall Optional Encounter 6: Defeat Fire-heart Stóthkell calls out, 'The fires of the eastern forge have died out. Use the bellows to rekindle them!' There is a flash and the fire-grim Fire-heart appears! Optional Encounter 7: Defeat Shadow-heart Stóthkell calls out, 'The fires of the northern forge have died out. Use the bellows to rekindle them!' There is a flash and the fire-grim Shadow-heart appears!
